How To Make Healthy Homemade Ketchup

We all need some sauce that will spice up a bowl of pasta or go along with the pizza, don’t you think so?  There is a variety of different choices out there, however sometimes we need something simple, homemade and tasty.

For all of you who would like to prepare ketchup in the comfort of your home and therefore avoid all the extra added chemicals and sugar that the ones from the supermarket contain, you should read and prepare our recipe.

Also have in mind that ketchup is the number one favorite to all children and it is for the best to everyone to avoid the artificial version and make yourself a healthy replacement.

If you cannot make your children skip the French fries, chicken fingers and fish sticks, the least you can do is avoid the added sugar which comes with artificial ketchup, right? It will not only keep you from consuming many calories, but also it will give more benefits to your body and keep you healthy.

To prepare the homemade ketchup, you will need the following ingredients:

  • ½ cup of white vinegar
  • ¾ tsp of salt
  • ¼ cup of honey
  • 6 oz can or jar of organic tomato paste
  • ¼ cup of water
  • ¼ tsp of onion powder
  • 1/8 tsp of garlic powder

Directions:

It will take you about 30 minutes to prepare this easy and simple recipe, by following the instructions.

First, you should put all the ingredients together in a medium saucepan and cook the homemade ketchup over medium heat. While cooking, keep on whisking the mixture until you get a creamy and smooth texture.

Afterwards, when it starts boiling, just reduce the heat and let it stay for about 20 minutes as it is, but do not forget to stir it from time to time, so it will not stick at the bottom of the saucepan.

At last, when everything is ready, you should put the saucepan aside and let it cool down for a while. Afterwards you should pour it in a container or a jar and keep it refrigerated.

We have to mention that the homemade ketchup will not last as long as a bought bottle of ketchup would, because the homemade doesn’t contain the chemicals which will make it last for long. Therefore, have in mind to use it for about 2 to 3 days, in order for it not to go bad.

Enjoy your healthy homemade ketchup!
